At Spring Valley we believe Sunday morning from 9:45-10:45 to be one of the most important hours in your child's week. Our volunteers take seriously their commitment to share God's love and Word with the children each week-and to make it fun! Many hours of prayer, planning, and preparation go into each Sunday school lesson.

Ministry with Young Children

Parents bring young children to church to help the children grow in faith. Our nursery and classrooms for young children aren't just a place where children are cared for during Sunday school and worship on Sunday mornings. While much faith development happens when the children are older, the foundation for faith begins in infancy. All faith is based on basic trust. The first step in faith growth for this age group come when adults pay attention to the children's needs and respond appropriately. When adults consistantly and dependably respond to a child's needs he or she learns to trust. This trust in turn forms the basis for trusting God. When this happens here at church the child learns that the church is a safe place where he or she is loved and cared for. Play is the work of children. Through play young children learn about God's creation and their place in it as well as how to respond to the world with love and caring and sharing. We are excited be a part of the faith development of your child! Don't hesistate to contact us if you have questions or to ensure that your child's specific needs will be met while in our care.

Nursery
Care for infants is provided during worship services as well as during the Sunday School Hour. While in the nursery your child will be loved and nurtured by our caring and dedicated caregivers. The caregivers are here each week and provide continuity and dependability both for you and your child. Through tender love and care each week your child will come to know that Spring Valley is a place where she or he is valued, loved and cared for. Please see the nursery page for more detailed information regarding our nursery.

Toddler and Two's Sunday School Class
This class uses the ecumenical curriculum Toddlers and Two's published by Bible Quest. It emphasizes teaching the overall story of the Bible, helping very young children encounter the Bible story and begin their faith journey as disciples of Jesus Christ. The activities in each session are carefully tailored to the abilities and interests of the children. The class is taught by a team of caring and dedicated caregivers who are here each week and provide continuity and dependability for both you and your child.

Live B.I.G. Sunday School

Children ages three through 5th graders learn how to Live B.I.G. each week in Sunday school.

Live B.I.G. is a unique and innovative curriculum with a DVD component where kids meet characters who model B.I.G. behavior, experience travel segments featuring ministries by everyday B.I.G. people, as well as some cool music. Each Live B.I.G. class is taught by a rotating team of volunteer teachers who provide continuity as well as build relationships with each child.

Live B.I.G. focuses on Three Big Truths:

*God is a great BIG God.
*God loves us with a great BIG love.
*We are part of God's great BIG world.

Our goal is for our kids to come to know and love Jesus Christ and to live out their faith in the world everyday. Join us on the journey!

Sixth graders participate in Confirmation Class during the Sunday school hour meeting in room 130. Rich and Dorothy Milner, along with our pastors, teach this class. Using the Claim the Name curriculum, this class is designed to empower and enable these young persons to respond to God's call in faith. Confirmation education has two focal points: information and formation. The basics of the Christian faith are taught and opportunities are provided for spiritual formation. The class is held August through May each year. At the conclusion of the year the children are promoted to the Youth Program.
