Spring Valley in Missions

Labor for Neighbors is a group of lay workers from the North Texas Conference who go most months to Sabine Pass on the Texas- Lousiana border and help rebuild from the damage done by Hurricane Rita.

Recently, xix people from Spring Valley UMC traveled to Mauriceville, Texas (total 17 people) and removed one complete roof, much of the decking and replaced it all in one very long day. From Spring Valley were Susan Hanchey and her grandson, Nick, Betty Reichel, Ted Butler, Mike Hensley, and Tedd Brown.

Labors For Neighbors are church members from the North Texas Conference who want to help with the rebuilding from the destruction from hurricane Rita. They take monthly trips to the Sabine Pass area and are assigned a home by UMCOR, which they help to rebuild. They currently specialize in replacing roofs.

We had supper and fellowship with Billy, the UMCOR representative in the area on Saturday night, and he said that there are still 21,000 blue tarps in their area that are over roofs that need to be replaced. We pointed out that the count is now 20,999.

Everyone is invited who would like to go on any future trips. There is work for everyone - cooking, cleaning and building!

January 5-7, all college students home for the Holidays are invited.

February 16-18, all singles - building roofs and friendships.

March 16-18, spring is here - break out of the house.

April 20-22, everyone is invited.
