Every day the Visiting Nurse Association prepares and delivers approximately 3,000 meals in Dallas County. The majority of these go to Head Start and Senior Citizen programs, but approximately 2,700 go to home-bound citizens - primarily elderly or infirm.
Not only does this delivery provide needed nourishment for these folks, but also quite often it is the only contact many of them have with the world outside their homes. Often good friendships are built with the volunteer.
Spring Valley delivers mid-morning two routes to shut ins, disabled, and elderly persons living alone. Thirty-three of our members and three non-SVUMC members dedicate themselves to providing this important service to our neighbors in Dallas County on a regular basis.
1. Working in pairs, SVUMC drives the week that begins with the 2nd Monday of each month and the 5th Monday of each month (if there is one) delivering meals in East Richardson on Route 1308. The volunteers pick the meals up at Northway Christian Church, 7202 W. Northwest Highway. Additionally, Spring Valley volunteers also drive this route on months that have a 5th week.
2. Each Thursday volunteers drive Route 506 in South Dallas. Meals are picked up at St. Phillips School, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
