MOM: The Mission of Motherhood
 |
MOM is a group made up of women who have motherhood and a heart for mission in common. We’ve found that many of the biggest challenges of mothering young children begin with a sense of lonely, bored detachment from the bigger world “out there”. At MOM meetings, we connect with one another, connect with God, and then connect to that bigger world through service. Our connections make us better mother, better wives, and better women, even as we get to contribute to making the bigger world a better place! Last year, we partnered with Ronald McDonald House, Parkland Hospital, Operation Christmas Child, and Welcome Home a Hero; this year, we’ve got even more planned. If you are a mom, you are invited to become a MOM!
Meet: Every other Monday morning from 10 12 at SVUMC. Childcare provided. Start date: September 12. Contact person:

DAD: Dads at Dawn
DAD is a group of men whose kids range in age from infancy to college. We are committed to becoming the fathers their children deserve, the husbands their wives need, and the men God created them to be. DAD meets for a pre-school-run breakfast once a week where we work through book studies and life challenges together. DAD gives dads the tools we need to step up and be focused, purpose-filled, and effective doing the most important work we’ll ever do: loving God, loving our wives and loving our children.
Meet: Every Thursday morning from 6:00 7:00 at Café Brazil on Coit. Start date: September 15.

On Saturday, March 12, members of the MOM and DAD groups gathered in Asbury Hall for a potluck brunch and poster-making collaboration. Our mission: pray for and prepare to meet and welcome home members of the armed services who would be passing through DFW airport that afternoon. Forty-one family members participated! Despite multiple delays at the airport, a five-year-old participant spoke for the group as she left after greeting almost 300 battle-weary soldiers: "I'm soooo tired... but I'm soooo glad we got to say thank you, because those guys are tired from protecting us, all the time."...MORE PHOTOS
