Mission Statement and Philosophy
The mission of Spring Valley United Methodist Church Preschool is to create a nurturing Christian environment that provides opportunities for each child to become the unique person God created him or her to be through individualized instruction.
Our philosophy is that learning is achieved by implementing developmentally appropriate educational experiences that promote academic awareness through hands on participation and challenging explorations. A young child needs to be involved in a loving, caring community in order to succeed.
The school is governed by the SVUMC Preschool Board, comprised of members of Spring Valley United Methodist Church.
Chapel is held weekly for children in our Three and Four year old programs. Chapel is lead by the ministers of Spring Valley on a rotating basis and all parents are welcome to attend.
- Provide an opportunity for children to develop an awareness of God’s love as experienced through relationships with teachers, clergy, other children and the preschool community.
- Promote intricate relationships between parents and the preschool to provide a cohesive support team for all students.
- Implement developmentally appropriate classrooms where teaching strategies are based on the knowledge of how young children learn.
- Encourage children to practice appropriate social skills and build friendships by helping them enter into, sustain and enhance play.
- Foster a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere by helping students accept similarities and differences.
- Provide multicultural opportunities for children to grow in their understanding of the world in which they live.
- Seek to affirm that students know school is a positive place to be, as well as a place where they can experience success.
- Guide students to leave our school with a positive attitude as a life long learner.
